If you’ve landed on this page, chances are you already have some familiarity with Beautycounter. However, for those new to our mission, let me provide a brief introduction. Beautycounter is proudly a Certified B Corporation – a distinction that is far from easy to achieve. This certification signifies that we adhere to the most rigorous standards of verified social and environmental performance, demonstrating unwavering transparency and accountability across all facets of our operations. At its core, Beautycounter’s mission is to ensure that safer beauty and skincare products are accessible to everyone. We fulfill this critical mission by meticulously formulating products that achieve a harmonious balance of safety, efficacy, and luxurious performance. Beyond product creation, we are relentless advocates for greater transparency and robust regulation within the beauty industry, which historically has seen little oversight. Every two years, Beautycounter empowers its consultants to travel to Washington D.C., where they engage directly with members of Congress to champion the cause of safer personal care products – a truly impactful initiative that I find incredibly inspiring. Beautycounter stands as a pioneering leader in the burgeoning “clean beauty” movement, and I couldn’t be more honored to contribute to such a meaningful cause.

What is the Investment to Become a Beautycounter Consultant?

Embarking on your journey as a Beautycounter Consultant is a straightforward process, entirely manageable online. We offer two distinct pathways for joining our thriving community. The first option, priced at $50, grants you access to your personalized e-commerce website, allowing customers to shop directly from you, alongside exclusive training resources designed to kickstart your business. For those seeking a more robust beginning, our second option is $98. This package includes your personal website and training, plus a curated selection of popular Beautycounter products – typically cooling eye gels, body balm, a stylish makeup bag, a versatile tote, and essential marketing materials to help you present your business professionally. As a special offer for current Band of Beauty members, the second option is available for an adjusted price of $69, making it even more accessible to our loyal community.

Beyond the initial sign-up fee, you also have a one-time opportunity at enrollment to purchase deeply discounted product bundles, often referred to as “starter kits.” These kits offer over 40% off the retail price, presenting an unparalleled value. While not mandatory, I wholeheartedly recommend investing in a starter kit if your budget allows. Having a personal inventory of products on hand is incredibly beneficial for various aspects of your burgeoning business: it allows you to host engaging social events, provide samples for potential customers, lend products for personal trials, and, of course, for your own everyday use. The ability to demonstrate and speak authentically about products you personally love and use is invaluable. From my experience, almost every consultant who initially foregoes a starter kit later expresses regret – myself included! It’s a powerful tool for initial momentum and genuine product immersion.

Are There Monthly Minimums or Required Purchases to Maintain Consultant Status?

This is one of the most refreshing aspects of the Beautycounter consultant program: there are absolutely no mandatory monthly purchases, no auto-ships, and no hidden fees often associated with other direct sales or MLM models. We operate differently, prioritizing flexibility and genuine passion over pressured sales. The sole requirement to maintain your consultant status is to achieve $1200 in qualifying volume (QV) within a six-month period. Your qualifying volume is a cumulative total, encompassing both your personal product purchases and all sales made to your customers. Notably, any starter kit you opt for at enrollment also contributes directly towards this $1200 target. This benchmark is incredibly attainable for most. Many consultants find they meet this volume easily within three to four months, and some even surpass it much sooner, demonstrating the genuine demand for safer beauty.

What Happens if I Don’t Meet the Minimum Sales Requirement?

There are no penalties or negative repercussions if you don’t meet the $1200 qualifying volume within the six-month window. Your consultant status simply transitions to that of a Band of Beauty member. This is still a fantastic program, offering perks like product credit on purchases and free shipping on eligible orders. It’s a graceful exit strategy that ensures you continue to benefit from Beautycounter’s offerings without any pressure or loss. Our system is designed to be supportive, not punitive.

Do Beautycounter Consultants Receive a Product Discount?

Absolutely, yes! One of the immediate and continuous perks of being a Beautycounter Consultant is a generous 25% discount on all Beautycounter products, available to you at all times. This not only makes personal use more affordable but also allows you to invest in a wider range of products for demonstrations and sampling, further enhancing your business potential.

How is Consultant Commission Calculated?

Beautycounter Consultants earn a competitive commission rate ranging from 25% to 35% on all their personal sales. This tiered structure means that the more you sell, the higher your commission percentage becomes, directly rewarding your efforts and dedication. Payments are disbursed monthly, and there are no minimum sales thresholds you need to hit to qualify for your earnings. For instance, if you make a $100 sale, you will receive $25 (or more, depending on your tier) deposited into your account around the 10th of the following month. This straightforward and transparent commission system ensures you are promptly rewarded for every sale you make.

Is Beautycounter an “MLM”? Understanding Our Direct Sales Model.

Yes, to put it simply, Beautycounter operates as a direct sales company. While the term “MLM” (Multi-Level Marketing) sometimes carries a negative connotation, our founder, Gregg Renfrew, strategically chose this model for a profound and impactful reason. Our products and, more importantly, our mission – to get safer beauty into the hands of everyone – are best communicated through personal connection and education. If Beautycounter products were merely placed on a department store shelf, their unique story, the rigorous safety standards, and our powerful advocacy mission would remain untold. The direct sales model empowers consultants like us to share this vital information face-to-face, fostering trust and genuine understanding with our customers.

And yes, I do earn a percentage of sales from individuals who choose to join my team and sign up under my mentorship. However, it’s crucial to understand the structure: I earn 5-9% of their sales, significantly less than the 25-35% I earn on my own sales. This means my primary motivation remains focused on growing my personal business and sales. The Beautycounter compensation plan is meticulously designed so that you cannot simply build a large team and passively earn your way to the top based solely on others’ efforts. Consultants are required to actively contribute to their own business growth. I find this structure incredibly fair and equitable. Being a mentor is a substantial commitment; I dedicate considerable time to answering questions, conducting training calls, onboarding new team members, and providing ongoing coaching. Yet, this has quickly become one of the most rewarding aspects of my Beautycounter journey. Witnessing consultants on my team achieve their goals and succeed brings me immense joy. I firmly believe that the mentorship override is well-deserved compensation for the extensive support and guidance provided, much like receiving a bonus for leadership at a traditional corporate job.

It’s important to emphasize that building a team is entirely optional. It’s highly encouraged because it amplifies our collective mission and can be incredibly rewarding, especially when collaborating with friends. However, no one will ever force you to recruit or build a team if that’s not aligned with your personal preferences or business style.

We acknowledge that “network marketing” sometimes carries a stigma, but Beautycounter is actively redefining and elevating this business model. Our commitment to innovation and accessibility is evident through our strategically located retail stores in vibrant areas like SOHO in NYC, Denver, and Nantucket. Beautycounter was recognized as the most Googled beauty brand of 2018 and proudly named among Fast Company’s top 50 most innovative companies in the World, ranking number one in the beauty segment. Our credibility is further reinforced by notable investors and board members, including Bono from U2 and John Replogle, the former CEO of Seventh Generation. We began as a grassroots movement, aiming to transform an $80+ billion dollar industry by amplifying one voice at a time – a powerful testament to how significant social change truly happens. Therefore, if you perceive us as just “another one of those companies,” I strongly encourage you to approach Beautycounter with an open mind and truly understand our unique value proposition. Personally, I would much rather invest my efforts into an opportunity that not only provides location independence but also actively challenges the traditional glass ceilings prevalent in corporate America, making a tangible difference in the world.

What is the Earning Potential as a Beautycounter Consultant?

The earning potential within Beautycounter is truly limitless; it directly correlates with the amount of time, passion, and strategic energy you dedicate to your business. When I first started, my earnings were modest, enough to cover our monthly house cleaning service and perhaps one or two of my children’s extracurricular activities. However, as my business gained momentum and I invested more consistently, things began to shift dramatically. Today, I am thrilled to share that my Beautycounter income not only covers our monthly mortgage but also provides significant additional financial stability. In a truly unbelievable turn of events, I was recently able to submit my notice at my traditional job! This incredible flexibility means I can now devote my limited free time to pursuing what I genuinely love: blogging and strategically growing my Beautycounter business. I’m still somewhat in disbelief that such an outcome was even possible, especially considering I never anticipated earning more than a few hundred dollars when I initially signed up. It’s a testament to the immense opportunity here. Below, you can find a representation of average monthly incomes based on consultant titles (I am currently at the Director level).

Please note: Earnings as a Beautycounter Consultant in the U.S. may vary significantly and are contingent upon many factors, including an individual’s dedication to selling and mentoring. Not all Consultants will earn money. As a Blogger with Other Affiliations, How Does This Compare?

Yes, if you’re a blogger or content creator with existing affiliate partnerships, the Beautycounter opportunity shares similarities but offers distinct advantages that make it even better. I personally collaborate with numerous companies as an affiliate, and without a doubt, Beautycounter provides the most robust earning potential and the most generous compensation structure I’ve encountered. Integrating Beautycounter into your platform can be an excellent strategy to diversify and significantly enhance your revenue streams. Why not leverage your influence and platform to genuinely help your audience transition to safer, high-performing products, aligning purpose with profit?

I Don’t Have a Blog; Can I Still Succeed as a Consultant?

A resounding 100% YES! It’s a common misconception that a blog or large online presence is a prerequisite for success. In reality, less than 10% of my personal team members are bloggers. The vast majority come from incredibly diverse backgrounds: career professionals, nurses, accountants, stay-at-home mothers, teachers, and everything in between. There are no specific qualifications or pre-requisites to become a consultant beyond passion for the mission and genuine love for the products. If you embody these two qualities, you possess the core ingredients for success. Social media is merely one avenue for sharing information about Beautycounter. You can also achieve remarkable success by hosting engaging social gatherings (not required, but incredibly fun and effective!), lending products to friends and family for them to experience firsthand, sending out thoughtfully curated samples by mail, and, most importantly, simply talking to people about our crucial mission. I am consistently amazed by the number of individuals eager to switch to safer product alternatives once they understand the impact. You’ll be surprised to discover that many people are actively seeking safer options; they just need guidance on how and where to begin. As long as they know to add you as their consultant before completing their purchase on the website, you are all set to earn commission. Consider all your existing communities and networks: your children’s schools, your neighborhood, local gyms, favorite salons, professional organizations, and personal friend circles. You likely know far more people than you realize who would be genuinely interested in making healthier choices for themselves and their families.

How Much Time Do I Need to Dedicate to My Beautycounter Business?

The beauty of being a Beautycounter Consultant is the complete flexibility it offers; the time commitment is entirely up to you and can be tailored to fit your life. When I initially launched my business, I realistically dedicated perhaps an hour of work per week. Now, with a growing team and increased momentum, I find myself investing between 5-8 hours per week on Beautycounter-related activities. The principle is simple: what you put into your business is directly reflected in what you get out of it. I frequently hear people say, “it’s not the right time” for various reasons. However, I joined when I was six months pregnant, already raising two young children, working full-time as a recruiter, and actively managing a blog. It was undeniably NOT the “ideal” time, yet I am incredibly grateful I chose to take that leap. Even though I couldn’t commit extensive hours in the beginning, I consistently started by sharing the products I used and genuinely loved on social media, and from there, my business organically began to grow. The key is simply to start somewhere!

I’m Not “Salesy” and I Don’t Want to Be “That Person”!

This is, without a doubt, the number one concern and question I hear when discussing this opportunity, and it was my primary hesitation as well. There’s a pervasive negative stigma surrounding direct sales companies, but it’s crucial to understand that being successful with Beautycounter absolutely does not require you to be annoying or pushy. In fact, please don’t be! There are numerous authentic and impactful ways to achieve success. Beautycounter is fundamentally an education-first company. Our focus is on empowering people with knowledge: sharing vital information about the severe lack of regulation in the beauty industry and guiding them towards making safer, more informed choices for their personal care. Share openly about the products you use, explaining genuinely why you love them. Talk about your ‘WHY’ – what motivated you to join this mission? Consider creating a private Facebook group where interested individuals can choose to join, ensuring they feel no pressure and are actively engaged. If you feel like you’re posting a lot on social media, remember that due to algorithms, far fewer people are likely seeing your posts than you imagine. The most important thing is to BE PROUD to be an integral part of such an amazing mission, and stop apologizing for advocating for safer products. The products, honestly, often sell themselves once people understand the science and the mission behind them. The clean beauty movement is still in its nascent stages, gaining significant momentum. The more people learn about the potentially toxic ingredients lurking in their everyday products, the more eager they will be to make the switch to safer alternatives.

That being said, it’s vital to manage expectations. You cannot post once on Instagram stories and expect sales to immediately start rolling in. This business, like any successful venture, demands patience, persistence, and, most importantly, CONSISTENCY. It will take more than a single post; studies show that people often need to see or interact with information 5-7 times before they decide to take action. Build relationships, educate consistently, and show up authentically.

So, You Actually Enjoy Being a Beautycounter Consultant?

YES, absolutely! This experience has genuinely been one of the most enjoyable and profoundly rewarding “jobs” I’ve ever had. I’m still often in disbelief that I’m now able to generate a significant income while simultaneously making a tangible impact on such an important social issue. Through this journey, I’ve had the privilege of connecting with so many inspiring and amazing women on our larger team. I’m incredibly excited to finally meet many of them in person at our upcoming LEAD conference in Arizona at the end of this month! The level of support within our larger group is phenomenal – we communicate extensively through our large team Facebook page, Instagram, and Voxer (a walkie-talkie app). It’s incredibly comforting to know that there is always someone available to answer my questions, offer guidance, or provide encouragement and upliftment whenever I encounter a challenge.

Okay, so if you’ve been contemplating joining Beautycounter or have been thinking about it for a while, I urge you to ask yourself: what exactly is holding you back? Is it fear of the unknown? Perhaps insecurity about trying something new? Remember, nothing truly great or transformative ever comes from remaining within your comfort zone. To experience amazing things, you simply have to take that courageous step outside of it. This profound realization has guided me over the past two years since I launched my blog, and it has been incredible to witness the positive changes that have unfolded since I decided to stop worrying about what other people might think. It’s time to start saying YES to the opportunities that present themselves. You will never know your full potential unless you try! And I genuinely believe that with Beautycounter, there is absolutely nothing to lose. It represents such a minimal investment with the potential for truly immense and fulfilling rewards.
